FAQ

How does P-DTR® work?

P-DTR was developed by Dr. Jose Palomar. In our daily lives, the body has many dysfunctions, and at the same time has its own repairing system. The P-DTR (Proprioceptive -Deep Tendon Reflex) is one of the most important self-restoring systems within our body. The DTR creates a global stimulus that resets the system in the same way we reset a router by unplugging it from the wall for 10 second and plugging it again. P-DTR uses specified Proprioceptive stimulation of Primary and Main Secondary dysfunctional receptors, and then resets the pattern via DTR. These receptors (those for pain, stretch, pressure, hot, cold, vibration, etc.) all send information to the brain for processing and the brain takes this feedback into account when making decisions regarding our movement. If this information is incorrect, as is often the case, the brain is making its decisions based on bad information. Pain and dysfunction frequently result. P-DTR® uses neural challenges specific to the involved receptors and muscle tests combined with proper stimulation of the deep tendon reflex to make immediate and long lasting advances toward restored function.

How does NKT® work?

NeuroKinetic Therapy® works by communicating with the motor-control center of the brain. Most musculoskeletal pain is caused by imbalances of neurological origins wherein some muscles are overactive, while others are inhibited by the brain. Using manual muscle testing, the neuromuscular patterns governing these movements are accessed in the brain’s motor-control center and can be changed for greater efficiency. This process allows NKT® to yield faster and longer-lasting results than most other techniques

How long does it take to see results?

There should be noticeable improvement after the first session. However depending on the complexity of the issue and how long the dysfunction has been happening, it can sometimes take 3-5 sessions to see significant results.

How long do results last?

Generally speaking, changes are long lasting if the body is able to adjust and integrate to the work and the new information received. New movement patterns learned and new sensations awakened during P-DTR and NKT tend to integrate better into daily life when clients practice movement and continue to attune to sensation. Also, practices–such as yoga, tai chi, martial arts, and other movement practices–usually reinforce the new pattern. If you are experiencing repetitive movement issues (i.e. sitting in front of the computer 10 hours a day), it will take a more diligent effort on part of the client to get the results to stick.

What is the format of a therapy session?

Each session will consist of a combination of one or more modalities including NKT, P-DTR, Kinesio-taping, Myofacial Massage and Sports Medicine or Yoga as homework. The session varies depending upon the goals of that particular session, but the client can anticipate a format that is generally consistent. Sessions last between 60-75 minutes (including paperwork and discussion, changing clothing and payment). At the beginning of the session, the client and practitioner verbally check in about how the last session integrated and how the client is feeling currently. Then, the practitioner will do some assessment: a body reading of the client in standing posture, an observation of movement patterns in walking, bending, raising of arms, etc., or observations in how the client balances and responds to stimulus. Now, the practitioner has some information to design a session (or series of sessions).

How much do sessions cost?

Sessions are currently priced at $85 per session for all manual therapies. For Kinesio Taping by itself, pricing is variable, determined by the complexity of the application and how long it takes me. I accept Cash, Check or Credit Card. Sessions are pay-as-you-go

Do you accept insurance?

I don’t accept insurance directly, though I will happily provide you with an invoice for you to submit to your insurance company for reimbursement. My work is generally accepted by health savings accounts and many health insurance carriers who cover massage therapy (performed by a massage therapist).

What should I wear to sessions?

All sessions are “clothes on” sessions… a comfort for many people. Occasionally I’ll ask that a particular item of clothing be adjusted or removed if it’s particularly in the way. I am a Massage Therapist. I recommend wearing workout-type or Yoga clothes… loose fitting and comfortable. Avoid layers, denim and thick kaki.
